Girl Power Needed ASAP!
Our planet is deeply complex and intricate, so it’s no wonder that researchers and scientists dedicate their lives to understanding it and look for ways of improving it. And now, with our climate changing faster than we can adapt, we need all the help we can get. Without gender equality, getting our environmental issues under control is simply impossible.
That’s why today we're honoring the International Day of Women and Girls in Science.
Outdated biases, gender stereotypes, and lack of media representation all steer women and girls away from pursuing interests and careers in science when their knowledge and insights are so sorely needed. Today, less than 30% of researchers worldwide are women, and only about 30% of women select STEM-related fields in higher education. Plus, when it comes to TV and film, only 12 percent of onscreen characters with jobs in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) are women. This can’t go on any longer.
Planet Earth needs women and girls in science. We all do. So join us today in celebrating the occasion and advocating for all the amazing women and girls in your life. Let them know that they are seen, they are capable, and they are needed. Let’s change the narrative, starting today.
You can join in the conversation about gender equality in science and many other topics concerning the environment on our facebook page. And you can join our environmental efforts with the purchase of any bracelet from our store, because for each one, we plant a tree and protect wildlife.
